Worthwhile day trips an hour from Cape Town

Day trips in the Mother City are great for holidays and with so much variety and such breathtaking surrounding areas you don’t need to break the bank to have a great day. The cheapest places actually tend to be among the most popular and well known destinations.

The first place we’d recommend would be Vredehoek Quarry. This abandoned spot is the ideal place for climbers and lovers of ghost towns. Located near Devil’s Peak , close to the old Vredehoek Tin Mine, there is a tunnel through which you can gain entry into the quarry. It’s also a great spot for mountain biking.

If you’re enjoying your holidays in Cape Town, then Smitswinkel Bay Beach is a must. It’s a secluded spot near the Cape Point Nature Reserve which cannot be reached by any vehicle (not even with one of the cars in our trusty fleet) It’s a 15 minute walk at least. It’s a quiet spot which means you can dive, snorkel or fish in peace.

Green Point Park is a perfect destination for families. With Signal Hill and Cape Town Stadium so close by holiday pictures will look like postcards showcasing some of Cape Town’s most iconic views. The Mouille Point and Green Point Promenades aren’t far where there’s a miniature blue train for kids and a Putt-Putt mini golf place and further down; Broken Path Beach.

We would also recommend taking a day trip to the District 6 Museum where you can learn about the history of Cape Town and the forced removals of the late 60s. For R55pp you can actually experience a guided tour with an ex-resident and get insight into the lives that they lived. A memorable day trip in Cape Town is more a matter of transport rather than money so get yourself a quality set of wheels to see the Mother City in on our car fleet page.
